Summer (June–September) offers the most predictable weather for outdoor ceremonies, but it’s also the busiest time and the most crowded at iconic spots.
Shoulder season (late spring and early fall) is a favorite for couples who want great light, fewer crowds, and a calmer feel.
Winter elopements can be magical, but they require flexible planning around snow, access, and colder temperatures.

Sand Harbor (Incline Village)
Sand Harbor is famous for its smooth granite boulders, gently sloping beaches, and unreal turquoise water. It’s one of the most recognizable Lake Tahoe backdrops and delivers that iconic Tahoe look — dramatic rock formations, open shoreline, and incredible light at both sunrise and sunset.
Planning note: Sand Harbor is part of Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park and does require a permit for organized ceremonies. Currently, the ceremony permit fee is $400, which reserves the Ramada Pavilion area. In addition, there is paid entry to the park at $10 per vehicle for you and your guests.
If you’re hoping to hold your ceremony directly along the water rather than at the Ramada Pavilion, it’s important to understand that the beaches remain public. That means you will need to work around visitors and you cannot ask members of the public to leave the area. During peak season especially, this can mean navigating crowds and being flexible with positioning and timing.
Because of these logistics, it is highly recommended to work with a reputable planner or coordinator who understands Sand Harbor’s layout, regulations, and timing restrictions. They can help ensure your ceremony runs smoothly while staying compliant with park rules.

One of the biggest considerations at Emerald Bay is parking. Outside of very early sunrise hours, parking is extremely limited and fills quickly. Guests often end up parking far away and walking long distances along the highway and uphill. Vehicles parked over the white line will be ticketed and towed. For this reason, it is strongly recommended to arrange drop-offs for you and your guests unless you’re fully comfortable with a longer walk up the mountain in formal attire.
Because Emerald Bay is such a public and high-traffic location, timing is everything. Sunrise ceremonies are often the most peaceful and give you the most privacy, while midday and sunset can bring significant crowds. Logan Shoals (East Shore)

Planning note: parking is limited, and summer traffic can be a factor, so weekday timing (or a sunrise/sunset plan) can make a huge difference in how private this feels.
